Winning Ticket was a dark bay Japanese Thoroughbred stallion of the early 1990s whose name is permanently tied to the 1993 Tokyo Yushun, the Japanese Derby. Foaled on 21 March 1990 and bred by Fujiwara Breeding Stud, he raced for Yosimi Ota and was trained from Ritto by Yuji Ito. The Derby was the defining moment of his career and the achievement that secured his historical place. Winning the Tokyo Yushun is enough to make any horse a lasting figure in Japanese racing, and Winning Ticket did so in an era remembered for strong classic competition. His listed JRA earnings reached ¥371.77 million, while another source records total earnings of 424,125,000 yen, reflecting the scale of his success on the track.
After retirement, Winning Ticket lived on as a stallion, and his reputation remained anchored above all by his classic success. He died on 18 February 2023.
