Bubble Gum Fellow was a bay Japanese stallion of the 1990s, foaled on 11 April 1993 and bred by Shadai Farm. He raced in the colours of Shadai Race Horse Co. Ltd. and was trained at Miho by Kazuo Fujisawa, a combination behind a compact but high-class career. By Sunday Silence out of Bubble Company, with Lyphard as his damsire, he carried a pedigree that blended one of Japan’s most transformative sires with an established international female line.
He made his first major mark at two. In 1995 he won the Tokyo Sports Hai Nisai Stakes and then the Asahi Hai Sansai Stakes, performances that secured him the JRA Award for Best Two-Year-Old Colt. That championship season quickly marked him out as one of the standout juveniles of his crop, and it gave early shape to a career that, while not long, would prove notably efficient and accomplished.
At three, Bubble Gum Fellow added the Spring Stakes and then captured the 1996 Tenno Sho (Autumn), his signature top-level success and the win that confirmed him as a genuine G1 horse. Across just 13 starts he compiled a record of 7 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds, earning ¥554,430,000. That record speaks to unusual consistency at a high level: he was lightly raced, but he was almost always in the frame.
He remained an important older horse in 1997, adding the Naruo Kinen and Mainichi Okan to his résumé. Those later successes helped round out his career arc from champion juvenile to major winner in open company, and they reinforced the quality that had been evident from the start. For a horse with relatively few starts, his list of victories is strikingly deep.
After retirement from racing, Bubble Gum Fellow stood at stud, with netkeiba recording both stud and progeny information. He died on 26 April 2010. Though his racecourse career was brief, his place in Japanese racing history rests securely on his champion two-year-old title, his Tenno Sho (Autumn) victory, and his role as a high-class son of Sunday Silence from the powerful Shadai system.
