Victoire Pisa was one of Japan’s standout male horses of the late 2000s and early 2010s, a dark bay stallion foaled on 31 March 2007. Bred by Shadai Farm, he raced in the colours of Yoshimi Ichikawa and was trained from Ritto by Katsuhiko Sumii. His career combined top-class domestic form with a major international breakthrough, and his name remains closely tied to elite middle- and long-distance racing.
He was especially well bred for that role. Victoire Pisa was by Neo Universe and out of Whitewater Affair, a daughter of Machiavellian, giving him a pedigree that blended Japanese Classic quality with an internationally proven female line. That family had already produced notable runners including Asakusa Den'en, winner of the 2005 Yasuda Kinen, and Swift Current, winner of the 2006 Kokura Kinen, underlining the depth of class behind him before he ever reached the track.
On the racecourse, Victoire Pisa built a high-class record of 15 starts for 8 wins, 1 second, and 2 thirds. His rise began at two with victories in the Kyoto Nisai Stakes and the Radio Nikkei Hai Nisai Stakes in 2009, and he carried that momentum into his three-year-old season with wins in the Yayoi Sho and the Satsuki Sho in 2010. Later that year he added the Arima Kinen, one of Japan’s signature races and the major win highlighted in his domestic record, confirming him as a horse of the highest level.
His achievements did not stop in Japan. In 2011 he won the Nakayama Kinen and then captured the Dubai World Cup, a landmark international success that helped define his reputation beyond his home country. He was recognized that season as the JRA Best Older Colt or Horse, an award that reflected both his durability and his ability to perform at the very top level across major stages. Across JRA racing he earned ¥595.95 million, while his broader career total reached 1,085,045,000 JPY including overseas earnings.
After retirement, Victoire Pisa took up stallion duties, extending the influence of a pedigree that was already one of his defining features. Even in summary, his career arc stands out clearly: a top juvenile, a Classic-winning three-year-old, an Arima Kinen hero, and a Japanese-trained horse who also succeeded on one of the world’s biggest international nights.
