Transcend

A bay stallion foaled on 9 March 2006, Transcend was bred in Japan by North Hills Management. He was sired by Wild Rush and produced from Cinema Scope, a daughter of Tony Bin.

That pedigree brought together Wild Rush as his immediate paternal influence and Tony Bin through the dam’s side. Transcend ultimately distinguished himself as a dirt specialist, the surface on which he earned his principal victory and championship recognition.

He raced for owner Koji Maeda and was trained by Takayuki Yasuda at the Ritto training centre. These connections remained central to the career recorded for him: North Hills Management as breeder, Maeda as owner and Yasuda as trainer.

The 2010 Japan Cup Dirt was the pivotal race of Transcend’s career. By winning the Grade 1 contest, he secured the highest-level success recorded among his major victories and confirmed his place among Japan’s notable dirt horses of the period.

The race also gives his career a clear historical anchor. Transcend was not simply a specialist who accumulated substantial earnings; he converted that ability into victory in one of the major races of Japan’s dirt programme. The result remains the achievement most closely associated with his name.

Takayuki Yasuda trained Transcend from Ritto, one of the principal centres of Japanese racing. Under Yasuda’s care, the horse developed a record substantial enough to earn more than ¥575 million in JRA competition, in addition to his NAR prize money.

Owner Koji Maeda campaigned a horse whose public identity became closely tied to dirt racing. Transcend’s profile is concise but distinguished: a Japanese-bred runner, a Grade 1 winner and a divisional champion. His success also reflected the breeding programme of North Hills Management, which produced him from Cinema Scope and the Wild Rush sire line.

Transcend retired with his reputation founded on two complementary distinctions: victory in the 2010 Japan Cup Dirt and selection as the 2011 JRA Best Dirt Horse. Those achievements preserve his place among the leading Japanese dirt specialists of the early 2010s.

His combined recorded earnings of ¥633.52 million across JRA and NAR competition further indicate the scale of his racing career. More enduring than the monetary total, however, is the progression from Grade 1 winner to officially recognized divisional champion—a compact but significant legacy in Japanese dirt racing.
