Tap Dance City’s six-year-old campaign in 2003 established him as a leading horse. He won the Kinko Sho for the first time and then added the Kyoto Daishoten, assembling a campaign that led to his defining achievement in the Japan Cup.

The Kinko Sho became a recurring landmark in his career. His 2003 success was the first of three consecutive victories in the race, a sequence he completed in 2004 and 2005. More than a single breakthrough, it became evidence of his ability to return to winning form over several seasons.

Victory in the Kyoto Daishoten further strengthened his 2003 record before the Japan Cup. Together, those wins showed a progression from established older horse to top-level performer.

Tap Dance City carried his form into 2004 rather than fading after his Japan Cup season. He won the Kinko Sho for a second consecutive year, then captured the Takarazuka Kinen, another of Japan’s major Grade 1 races.

The Takarazuka Kinen mattered because it confirmed that his Japan Cup victory was not the endpoint of his career. At seven, he remained capable of winning at the highest level, adding a second major championship event to his record. The pairing of the 2003 Japan Cup and 2004 Takarazuka Kinen gave his career a durable top-level foundation: elite victories achieved in successive seasons rather than during one brief peak.

His second Kinko Sho also linked those two seasons. The race had helped prepare the way for his 2003 achievements and again formed part of a major-winning campaign in 2004.

Tap Dance City returned in 2005 to win the Kinko Sho for the third successive year. By then eight years old, he was still adding notable victories to a career that had already encompassed the Japan Cup and Takarazuka Kinen.

The three-year Kinko Sho sequence—2003, 2004 and 2005—is one of the most distinctive features of his record. Each victory belonged to a different season of his later career: the first during his rise to Japan Cup winner, the second in his Takarazuka Kinen campaign and the third as an older veteran. Taken together, they illustrate the longevity that separated Tap Dance City from horses remembered for only a single outstanding year.

His final record of 12 wins from 42 starts also includes 13 additional finishes in second or third place. That combination of victories and placings underscores the length and substance of a campaign that generated more than ¥1.08 billion in JRA earnings.

Tap Dance City’s career was shaped by a stable set of principal connections. Yushun Horse Co. Ltd. owned him, while Shozo Sasaki trained him from Ritto. Tetsuzo Sato is recorded as his associated jockey.

That continuity accompanied a racing career notably different from the compressed path often taken by horses whose greatest achievements come at three or four. Tap Dance City did not record his first listed major victory until five, reached his defining Grade 1 triumph at six, added another at seven and was still winning a significant race at eight.

His Japanese name, タップダンスシチー, reflects the identity under which this American-bred son of Pleasant Tap became a prominent figure in Japanese racing. His record combines international breeding with a career developed through Japanese ownership, training and competition.
