Hokko Tarumae (ホッコータルマエ) carries her hometown pride like a banner. Known as “The Star of Tomakomai,” she is a grounded local idol who races as a representative of Tomakomai, approaching that role with unmistakable earnestness. She may stand on a grand stage, but her identity remains firmly rooted in the place she champions.
A Junior Division student living in Ritto Dormitory, Tarumae is 162 cm tall, with measurements of B86–W56–H85 and a shoe size of 24.5 cm. Her official weight note is the reassuringly steady “No change.” She rooms with Verxina, giving her a particularly poised dormitory companion.
Her talents make her hometown devotion impossible to miss: Tarumae excels at Tomakomai quizzes, and she is also strong at mountain climbing. Luck, however, is not something she likes to depend upon—and boats are decidedly outside her comfort zone. That mixture of practical resolve and very human hesitation keeps the “Star of Tomakomai” from feeling distant or overly polished.
Tarumae usually refers to herself as Watashi, though Ora also appears in her speech, adding a distinctive regional touch to her voice. She addresses her trainer politely as Trainer-san. Her solo song, “Keppare! Kagayaki Straight,” suits the straightforward, shining determination at the heart of her character.
Her circle includes friends, rivals, and encouraging seniors:
Voiced by Sayaka Kikuchi, Hokko Tarumae celebrates her birthday on May 26. Warm, diligent, and proudly local, she turns civic spirit into star power—less an untouchable celebrity than a determined hometown representative racing straight toward the spotlight.

Hokko Tarumae (ホッコータルマエ) is a retired Japanese bay stallion whose prolific dirt career made him a defining performer of the 2010s. Foaled on 26 May 2009 at Ichikawa Farm in Urakawa, Hokkaido, he was named after Mount Tarumae, the volcano near Tomakomai. Koichi Yabe bought him for ¥15,750,000 at the 2010 Hokkaido Selection Sale.
He was bred from distinguished international bloodlines, being by King Kamehameha out of Madam Cherokee, a daughter of American champion Cherokee Run. Trained at Ritto by Katsuichi Nishiura, Hokko Tarumae raced during his career for Koichi Yabe, Michiaki Yabe, and Hokko Shoji Co. Ltd.; jockey Hideaki Miyuki was also closely associated with him.
Hokko Tarumae built his reputation across both the Japan Racing Association circuit and regional National Association of Racing tracks. He compiled an overall record of 17 wins, five seconds, and seven thirds from 39 starts. Eleven of those victories came on NAR tracks and six under JRA jurisdiction, illustrating the breadth of a campaign that moved regularly between Japan’s principal dirt stages. He also made three starts in the United Arab Emirates.
His peak seasons brought repeated success at the highest level. Hokko Tarumae won the Tokyo Daishoten in both 2013 and 2014, then added the 2014 Champions Cup, a JRA Grade 1. The latter victory was a major landmark in a career already distinguished by sustained excellence on dirt, while his back-to-back Tokyo Daishoten wins demonstrated his ability to return to a championship event and retain his crown.
Across all jurisdictions, his reported earnings totaled ¥1,114,591,800, including ¥351,056,000 from JRA racing and ¥727,650,000 on the NAR circuit, together with US$300,000 earned in the UAE. Now retired and standing as a stallion, Hokko Tarumae is remembered for the scale and consistency of a career that bridged Japan’s central and regional dirt-racing worlds.
