Vivlos was one of the better Japanese mares of the late 2010s, a black daughter of Deep Impact bred by Northern Farm and raced in the colours of Kazuhiro Sasaki. Trained at Ritto by Yasuo Tomomichi, she compiled a record of 17 starts for 4 wins and 6 seconds, earning major honours in Japan and abroad. Her career placed her among the notable middle-distance mares of her generation, and she retired with top-level victories in both Japan and Dubai.
She came from an exceptional family. Vivlos was out of Halwa Sweet, by Machiavellian, and her close relations underline the strength of the pedigree: she was a sister to Verxina, winner of the 2013 Victoria Mile, and to Cheval Grand, winner of the 2017 Japan Cup. In that context, Vivlos was not simply well bred on paper; she became another elite performer from one of Northern Farm’s most productive families.
Her breakthrough at the highest level came in the 2016 Shuka Sho, the Japanese Fillies’ Triple Crown finale, which stands as her listed major win in JRA records. That success established her as a Classic-winning filly and marked her out as a mare of real class. She was not an overwhelmingly prolific winner, but her record shows notable consistency, with six runner-up finishes across a relatively compact career.
Vivlos reached an international peak in 2017 when she won the Dubai Turf, adding an important overseas Group 1 success to her domestic Classic triumph. That campaign helped earn her the JRA Award for Best Older Filly or Mare in 2017. The combination of a Shuka Sho and a Dubai Turf gave her a rare profile: a Japanese Classic heroine who also proved herself on one of the world’s biggest international stages.
Her final racecourse appearance was another strong effort, when she finished second in the 2019 Dubai Turf. She retired from racing as a broodmare, her legacy resting on both the quality of her achievements and the depth of the family she represents. While some champions dominate through sheer volume of victories, Vivlos is remembered more for the calibre of her best performances: a top-class mare from a distinguished pedigree who delivered on the biggest days.
