Duramente was one of the standout Japanese colts of the mid-2010s, a bay stallion foaled on 22 March 2012 and bred by Northern Farm. He raced in the colors of Sunday Racing Co. Ltd. and was trained by Noriyuki Hori, building a compact but brilliant record of 9 starts for 5 wins and 4 seconds. Though his race career was relatively short, it was rich in top-level achievement and left a strong impression.
His pedigree was notable even by elite Japanese standards. Duramente was by King Kamehameha and out of Admire Groove, a daughter of Sunday Silence, giving him a pedigree that blended two of the most influential modern lines in Japanese racing. Bred at Northern Farm and campaigned by one of the country's leading ownership groups, he arrived with considerable expectations and ultimately lived up to them on the track.
At three, Duramente reached the summit of his generation. In 2015 he won both the Satsuki Sho (Japanese 2000 Guineas) and the Tokyo Yushun, better known internationally as the Japanese Derby, establishing himself as the leading Japanese three-year-old colt of the year. Those victories secured him the JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Colt, and the Derby success in particular fixed his place in the sport's historical record, as Japan's classic winners always command lasting attention.
He continued racing at the highest level at four and added the Nakayama Kinen in 2016 to his major wins. His overall earnings in Japan reached ¥516,607,000, and his race summary shows remarkable consistency: he never finished worse than second in any of his nine starts, including one run in the UAE where he was also runner-up. For a horse with such a brief campaign, that level of reliability alongside Classic-winning brilliance helped define his reputation.
After retirement, Duramente went to stud and became an important sire. His progeny included top performers such as Titleholder, Stars on Earth, Arrivo, Avverare, Icon Tailor, and Valle de la Luna. His influence grew quickly enough that he was recognized as Japan's leading sire in 2023, extending his importance well beyond his own racing days. Duramente died on 31 August 2021, but both his Classic victories and his early success as a stallion ensured that his legacy continued.
